Event details

Na Píobairí Uilleann presents Notes & Narratives – a series of monthly performance-based lectures on traditional music, song and dance by some of Ireland’s finest traditional artists.

This month's speaker will be Andrew Caden presenting a talk on "Humble Genius: Martin Wynne"

This event will take a look at the unique life and music of Martin Wynne (1913-1998). From youthful days in Sligo, early recordings in London, emigration to the United States, musical friendships in New York, and a life-long fascination with the music of Michael Coleman, each chapter in Wynne's life is worthy of dissection. Analysing Wynne's musical influences, recordings on non-commercial 78 rpm discs and reel-to-reel tapes, and various interviews aim to give a window into his ideology on the fiddle.

Notes & Narratives will take place at Na Píobairí Uilleann, 15 Henrietta Street, Dublin 1, starting at 8:30pm on Thursday 18th September 2025.

Admission is €10 (unwaged / student / retired €5). For those unable to attend in person, it will also be live streamed for free through our channel NPU-TV.

Supported by The Arts Council.
