Event details

In a world growing ever darker, Candlelit Tales invites you to the Sugar Club on December 19th, two nights before the winter solstice, for an evening of myth, music, and special guests on a night to gather. As we sit together on the brink of the longest night, we’ll lean into the depths of Irish mythology to uncover the wisdom within the shadows. Through powerful stories and evocative live music, experience how our ancestors found strength in hardship and learned to survive—and even thrive—by embracing the darkness. Join us as we explore the magic of myth. The collective creations, inspirations, evocations and sensorial stimulations these tales evoke. They inspire resilience, spark the spirit, and remind us that spring always returns.

This season, gather together for something worth celebrating as we enter the darkest hour, together.

Candlelit Tales was founded by sibling storytellers Aron and Sorcha Hegarty in 2014. Over the years their enthusiasm for story and live performance has only grown, and on the rare occasion when the whole band can come together, the group will invite special guest musicians and performers on stage for this Winter Solstice Special.

Driven by this shared passion for Irish mythology and expression, Candlelit Tales has developed and refined a uniquely expressive, naturalistic and modern style of Storytelling, with live music and very occasionally, with a visual or movent component too.

Live music is the heartbeat of all the performances, and a live original music score composed by a team of talented musicians drives the rhythm of the storytelling, weaving through the tale and sweeping the listener away.

We will take our favourite myths that reflect the season, and we don’t shy away from the sex and violence that was always present in the Irish storytelling tradition. We keep the depth, the wisdom, and the richness, and leaven it with humour, passion and playfulness to enchant audiences of all ages.

We will make you laugh, make you cry, and maybe even make you roar. We want to let these stories live again, and we need you to listen.
