Niamh Strong’s voice is a rich tapestry of blues, soul, and jazz—powerful, emotive, and unforgettable. Born into Ireland’s legendary Strong musical family, she is the daughter of renowned blues singer Rob Strong and sister of Andrew Strong, star of The Commitments.
Niamh first astonished audiences at just nine years old, stepping up to the microphone during one of her father’s jam sessions. Her natural ability was undeniable, and by 18 she was writing and performing her own material. A demo soon brought her to New York, where music lawyer John Polinsky arranged showcases at Arlene’s Grocery and The Cutting Room. Industry interest followed, leading her to Los Angeles to record with Robert E. Pineda of Ray Charles’ company—prompting Charles himself to remark that her voice had “moments of genius.”
Over the next decade, Niamh toured internationally with her brother Andrew, performing at major festivals and arenas across Europe, the USA, Australia, and Canada. The experience gave her the confidence to step into her own spotlight as a solo artist.
In 2018, she released Niamh Strong Sings Eva Cassidy, a moving tribute to one of her greatest influences. Since then, her original singles—Brighter Days (2021), Yesterday (2022), Lost Soul (2022), and Workhard (2022)—have showcased her evolution as a songwriter and performer, blending heartfelt storytelling with soulful intensity.
Niamh has already had a busy Spring touring with her wonderful contribution “Songbird, The Songs of Eva Cassidy” and this summer she has played in Arthurs Blues & Jazz club as well as Letterkenny Blues & Roots and Dún Laoghaire Festival with Harvest Blues, Monaghan, and Blackstairs Blues, Enniscorthy festivals still to come.
With her pedigree, global experience, and commanding voice, Niamh Strong is carving her own path as one of Ireland’s most captivating contemporary vocalists and is certainly not one to miss.
